Professor James Muro
Martial Arts Historian and Creator of "Island Blend"

Professor Muro began his training in the martial arts at the age of five. He holds several ranks in various martial arts, which include 8th dan rankings in Hawaiian Dan Zan Ryu Jujitsu and Kenpo Karate, 4th dan in Shoriji Ryu, and 3rd dan in Kodokan Judo, all received under the late Professor Chow-Hoon. He also holds a Masters Certificate in Decuerdas Eskrima under Grand Masters Gilbert Tenio and has been studying Serrada Eskrima with Professor Juan Eliab and Inayan Kadena De Mano Eskrima under Suru's Mike and Jason Inay.

Known for his technical knowledge of the martial arts, Professor Muro has served as technical advisor to many martial arts organizations world-wide and has also been inducted into several martial arts halls of fame.

As one of the Founders of the Kilohana Martial Arts Association, Professor Muro sits on the Standards Board Committee acting as the Technical Director and Chairman.

Combining his knowledge of the martial arts, he created a dramatic "Island Blend" or style of Ku'i Lima and is the Senior Advisor to the Hawaiian Martial Arts Society.

Professor Muro has been studying Kaihewalu Lua under 'Õlohe Solomon Kaihewalu since 2001 and is a regional representative of Lua O Kaihewalu Hâlau.
